The Center is a 150,000 sq. ft. building located on a 30-acre public park along the Arkansas River in downtown Little Rock, Arkansas. The center houses the museum, archives and public policy center of President William J. Clinton.
The main body of the center hovers over the ground plane extending out toward the river. The interior includes a 240-foot long, naturally-lit permanent exhibition hall with exhibition gallery, education and media center, great hall and café. There are several ornamental stairs of stone, glass, wood and stainless steel throughout the interior of the building.
The design of the Center includes elements which contribute to achieving a level of sustainable design. These include low flow plumbing fixtures, the use of rapidly renewable and regional materials and occupant and air sensors to control lighting and environmental conditions. The highly efficient heating and cooling systems consists of seasonally alternating radiant heating and absorptive cooling piping in the floor slabs combine with displacement cooling with the 30-foot tall museum space. A 50 KW photovoltaic solar array on the roof of the Archive Building helps provide electricity for the Center.
The Center attained certification under the U.S. Green building Council’s LEED Green Building Rating System.
Polshek’s Kevin McClurkan (architect design firm for the Center) said that “CDI was so far out ahead of all the coordination and potential problems on the jobsite that by the time any of the major subs came to do work, there were no major problems.”
